Apple announced their new notebook lineup today.

1. MacBook
http://www.apple.com/macbook/

2. MacBook Pro
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/acbookpro/

Both of these new notebooks have the new aluminum case made from one solid piece of aluminum stock.
I think these units are very nice looking.

Coming soon is the new 24 inch Apple Display made specifically for the notebooks.

These displays have a built-in iSight camera, new touchpad and a backlit keyboard.

I will most likely be upgrading my system once the new displays are offered.
Anyone else thinking about getting the new MacBook?

After some review of the new MacBook, there are 2 problems.

One, the lower end MacBook does NOT have the backlit keyboard.
Originally, Apple listed both MacBooks as having backlit keyboards in the Apple Store. This has now been removed from the advertising specification list on the lower end MacBook.
So, no backlit keyboard on the $1299 model, only on the $1599 model

This isn't a deal breaker as if you really want the backlit keyboard you can choose the higher priced model.

Here is the deal breaker for many Apple users. You can read all about the complaints that are being posted in Apples own forums.

Apple has removed the firewire port on both MacBook models.
This is NOT good.
Bottom line, thousands of die hard Mac users will NOT be purchasing the new MacBook anytime soon until something can be done about the firewire port.

Many people like myself are using video cameras which are connected to the computers via the firewire port. iMovie uses the firewire port to import movies from your firewire connected camera. Without the firewire port, we would need to buy new cameras, external hard drives, etc...

At this time I cannot recommend purchasing a new MacBook unless of course you have absolutely no need for a firewire port and never will have the need for one.

I realize we could buy the MacBook Pro that has a firewire port but then the Pro starts off at $1999. That would be $700 more just to get the firewire port... Not good.
For me, I don't want a larger laptop. The 15 inch Pro is too big for many people who travel. The 13 inch MacBook is the perfect size for many people who travel.

The Mac community is waiting for Apple to respond. They certainly did not mention anything about the missing firewire port in their speech Tuesday... Why?

I personally think this is a big mistake by Apple. How much did they save by removing the firewire port in the MacBook models?
I am very disappointed in Apple until this is resolved.
