Mac OS X 10.7.3 update today [Discussions or Help for Apple Computers]

For those of you that don't have your updates set for automatically, there is a Lion update today....

10.7.3 has been released for all of you running Lion....
You can download it using your "Software Update" or by going here and downloading the Combo update.

I use the Combo update because I have several computers and I only have to download it once and then update the rest of my computers...

For those of you that have Apple Base Stations,
Airport Extreme
Airport Express
Time Capsule

There is a new firmware 7.6.1 update
To update your Base Stations you need to open up the Airport Utility in your Utilities folder and then the update should show up automatically.
If it doesn't do it automatically, then click on the Airport Utility in the menu bar and "Check for Updates".

Follow the prompts and give it time to upload and restart your Base Stations.
The new firmware fixes a few prior problems.

Apple has also releasesd Airport Utility 6.0 for 10.7 Lion users which is available through your Software Update feature on your Mac....

Well, I guess no one else is running Lion yet.

I have now installed it on 2 of my computers and they seem to be doing fine.

A couple of things to watch out for before upgrading is any old software you have that you still are using. Old PPC software will NOT work with Lion.....

I had to update Quicken so it was compatible with Lion.
I also need to update Microsoft Word/Excel/etc. if I want to use them with Lion as my version '98 is not compatible. So far I don't need Microsoft so I haven't updated that....

AppleWorks will no longer work and there are no updates.
I am going to miss that for several things I used to do.

Other than that, Lion runs good and has some nice new features.

I would like to hear any stories from other users.

The new way to purchase software is through the Mac App Store.
No more boxed versions of software to buy, we just download it from the App Store.

I am running it on a separate Hard Drive to test it out. Some changes that some will like and other changes may be more challenging to adjust to.

Is anyone else experiencing slow Internet today using Sisqtel ?

Mine is so slow today it isn't worth trying to go anywhere.
All pages just take much too long to load no matter where I go.

Scott Valley Weather [Fort Jones/Etna News]

Nice east facing photo today (12/19/10 at 1:05:59 PM). The snow level comes right down the hill to just above the valley floor. It gives a hint of the snow piling up in the mountains, refreshing the area for great camping and hiking next summer.

Here's a National Weather Service page showing the modeled snow depth for up in Marble Valley.

It looks like about two feet of moderately heavy wet snow at 6000'. B)

I understand many people might be buying an iPad for Christmas.

However, my suggestion would be to wait until the iPad 2 comes out in February.

The current iPad does not have a camera and the new model coming out is rumored to have a camera which will allow people to use FaceTime for calling other Apple users on their iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or Apple computer.
As of today, the iPhone, iPod Touch, and Apple computers can use FaceTime.
The iPad cannot.

I was thinking about buying Janet (my wife) an iPad for Christams but am going to hold off.
Instead, she is buying me a new iPod Touch 4th generation which has the new FaceTime along with some other nice features like a rear facing video camera. Check out the new features below.

From all the fairly reliable rumors, the new iPad 2 will have many of the newer features that the new iPhone4 and iPod Touch4 have.

I'm sure many people that do buy an iPad for Christmas will be disappointed come February if the rumors are correct. I know I certainly would be and that is why I am going to wait on the iPad.

Disclaimer:
Like anything else with Apple, no one really knows for sure but the ground work on all the other Apple products is already in place. Only the iPad remains without a camera and FaceTime.
This is just a heads up and by no means is any guaranty that there will even be a new iPad in February.

Apple has released a new application called FaceTime.
This allows people using iPhones or iPod Touches to call another person that is using their Mac computer and have a video call.

I am trying it out now... Will let you know how it goes.
